Biography

Jens was born in Herning, Denmark. As a boy he was part of the Boys choir in Herning. Alongside studying at the Opera Academy he was briefly a semi-professional football player at Fremad Amager in Copenhagen but decided to focus his energy on a career as an opera singer.
He graduated from the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen in 2003 and made his debut from the Royal Academy of Music in 2005.
 
His recent and future engagements include Onegin (Eugene Onegin)and Wanderer (Siegfried) at Den Norske Opera, Wotan (Siegfried), Ford (Falstaff) at Den Ny Opera, Scarpia (Tosca) with Lyngby Taarbæk Symphony Orchestra, also Marcello (La boheme), Don Giovanni and Scarpia (Tosca) at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
 
During past season he sung Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Paolo (Simono Boccanegra), Don Fernando (Fidelio) at The Royal Danish Opera, Archidiaconus (Notre Dame of F. Schmidt) at Theater St. Gallen, Il Conte (Le nozze di Figaro) at Den Ny Opera, Esbjerg, Johannespassion with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, and Beethoven 9th with Arctic Philharmonic, among others.
 
From 2004-07 he was a part of the soloist ensemble at DNT Weimar. From 2007-17 he worked as a freelance singer and from 2017-19 he was part of the soloist ensemble at the Royal Opera of Copenhagen. His operatic repertoire is wide ranging from the baroque to contemporary music. In the last 2 years he has moved into roles such as Onegin, Scarpia and Wotan (Rheingold).
 
As a concert singer he is frequently engaged with the major orchestras in Denmark performing Ein Deutsches Requiem, The Messiah, St. Matthew Passion etc.
 
He has been working with conductors such as Jun Märkl, Alexander Vedernikov, Michal Schönwandt, Jac Van Steen, Eric Ericson.
 
Jens has received numerous awards such as Aksel Schiøtz prize, Aalborg opera prize, AM Mortensen scholarship, etc.
