Another delight for the ears was the bass Markus Piontek; when one listened to his distinctive, supremely confident, and almost balsamic deep voice, all the Wagnerian heroes in which he recently excelled could be seen passing before the inner eye. His passionate and, where necessary, eerily beautiful Verdi (Confutatis maledictis) was a pure revelation.
