Biography

Specializing in Baroque repertoire, Steffen has during his studies and now as a member of the newly started Young Artist Program at the Royal Danish Opera become a household name with Baroque ensembles and orchestras in Denmark. He has also premiered several modern opera pieces in Denmark, also at Copenhagen Opera Festival, where he returns in 2023 as their 2023 Talent of the Year.
 
Steffen is a member of the Royal Danish Operas Young Artist Program from 2021-2023. His future engagements include tours and productions with Concerto Copenhagen (Denmark), Barokksolistene (Norway) and baroque orchestras in Scandinavia.
 
A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Opera Academy under the Royal Danish Theatre, he made his operatic debut with Danish/Swedish baroque ensemble Camerata Øresund in 2018, where he sang the title role in Vivaldi’s Il Giustino at Denmark’s biggest Early Music Festival. In September 2022 Steffen premiered his own staged-concert I Senesinos Fodspor with Camerata Øresund at Gamle scene the Royal Danish Opera. His performance led to a nomination as Opera Singer of the Year by music magazine Copenhagen Culture in February 2023.
 
Since 2020 Steffen has been working with Danish baroque orchestra Concerto Copenhagen, singing in Bach’s St. John Passion and Christmas Oratorio. In 2021 Steffen was part of their online production of Fairy Queen by Purcell and in 2023 he went on tour with them performing solo Bach cantatas in Denmark and Germany and in their production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the Royal Danish Opera.
 
In September 2021 Steffen was awarded with Hans Voigt’s Memorial Scholarship, one of Denmark’s most esteemed honorary grants for young opera singers. At the concert he was accompanied by Concerto Copenhagen’s artistic director Lars Ulrik Mortensen.
