CARMEN, Immling Festival, 2025

The conventional division of the two main female characters into saint and seductress was vocally dismantled in this performance. Soprano Aistė Piliba delivered the virtuous Michaela with unmatched brilliance. Her voice clear yet powerful, charged with plaintive emotional tension-broke through the role's usual moral stiffness. This was a compelling, emotionally rich artistic statement against long-standing operatic clichés.

It is especially gratifying that Aistė Pilibavičiūtė (a soprano), who started her career not so long ago and created Ilia, the Princess of the Trojan in captivity, took part in both premieres. She was fascinating by the rich, full with overtones, even in all the registers voice and organic acting.

Ilia's role was successfully created by Aistė Pilibavičiūtė, whose soprano was especially fascinated on her first stage. A pleasant timbre, technically mastered voice easily slipped through the more complex pages of the score.

Soprano Aistė Pilibavičiūtė (Mimi) performed with great sensitivity. The image of a tired but kind-hearted seamstress was perfectly conveyed: subtly expressed ornamentation, mesmerizing sound, restrained but expressive body language.
