Biography

Louise McClelland Jacobsen is a Danish/New Zealand soprano born in 1997 and based in Copenhagen. She graduated her master’s degree with honours in summer 2023 from The Royal Danish Opera Academy. Prior to this, she studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Music and at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
 
Her soloist debut with The Danish National Symphony Orchestra was in 2018 and she will be performing with them again later this year.
 
Her stage debut at The Royal Danish Theatre (Opera House) was as 5.Magd in Strauss’ Elektra in March 2023. Following that, she sang the role of the High Priestess in Verdi’s Aida.
 
She also worked with several orchestras and ensembles such as Concerto Copenhagen, Ensemble Storstrøm, The Royal Danish Orchestra, Jönköping’s Sinfonietta, ensemble Theatre of Voices and have concerts planned with, amongst others, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Aalborg Symphony and Ensemble MidtVest.
 
She has been granted several awards and scholarships, such as the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsens Talent Award and the Léonie Sonnings Talent Prize. In 2024, she was announced Talent of the Year for DR P2 (the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s classical music station).
 
Her repertoire embraces an enormous range from early music to the latest modern repertoire, from lieder to oratorios to opera. She is looking forward to premiering new compositions this year, both in Denmark and abroad.

Louise enjoys chamber music Trio Doré, with hornist, Lasse Mauritzen, and harpist, Zachary Hatcher.
After winning the first Langgaard Competition in Denmark in 2021, she completed her first recording (DaCapo Records) of Rued Langgaard’s songs with pianist Kristian Riisager. The album is ‘Album of the Week’ (8, 2024) on DR P2.
