Jaesung Kim is a talented South Korean opera singer who has made a name for himself in the European classical music scene. He has trained extensively in music, earning a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Music Würzburg and participating in the Young Artist Programme at the Pfalz Theater in Germany. Additionally, he has completed the Meister Klasse Examen at the University of Music Mannheim.
Jaesung has also participated in numerous master classes with esteemed vocal coaches such as Kirsten Schötteldreier, Burkhard Fritz, and Christiane Iven. He has received recognition for his vocal abilities in various, including the International Virgilijus Noreika Competition, where he won the third prize and three special prizes, and the International Vocal Competition of Gabriela Benackova, where he won the third prize. He has received a special prize at the Alcamo International Competition, and was a finalist in the Montserrat Caballe Competition and the Alfredo Kraus Competition.
Currently, Jaesung Kim is set to perform as a soloist at the Theater Heidelberg, which is a testament to his talent and dedication to his craft. He has sung the role of Don Jose in G. Bizet’s Carmen production with conductor Elias Grandy there and will perform it again at the Heidelberg Castle Festival in July 2025. Besides this role, he is performing Macduff (G. Verdi’s Macbeth), Werther (J. Massenet’s Werter), and Števa (L. Janaček‘s Jenufa) during the 2024/25 season in Heidelberg. In summer 2025 Jeasung is making his debut as Pinkerton (G. Puccini’s Madama Butterfly) in South Korea.
Next season Jaesung will perform Des Grieux (J. Massenet’s Manon Lescaut) and An Italian singer (R. Strauss‘ Der Rosenkavalier) as well as L.van Beethoven‘s 9th Symphony, conducted by Mino Marani.
His other roles include Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin,Taminoin Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Duca in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Rudolfo in Puccini’s La boheme.
Jaesung Kim, a talented lyric tenor, has a strong desire to meet and communicate with people from all around the world through his music. He is deeply passionate about classical music and aspires to study the works of Richard Wagner in the future.
