Biography

Ian Marcus Bjørsvik (b. 2002) from Askøy has quickly established himself as one of Norway's most promising young tenors. He recieved his bachelor’s degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (DKDM) in 2024, and is currently studying at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen, where he will take his final exam in the spring of 2026.
 
Bjørsvik made his professional debut as A Hunter in Dvořák’s Rusalka with the Bergen National Opera in 2023. Since then, he has appeared at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen as Ein Offizier in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos in the spring of 2024, and as Lehrbuben in the critically acclaimed production of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in the spring of 2025. He debuted the role of Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in a film production produced by Opera Hedeland and Concerto Copenhagen in 2023, and has also performed the role at Bergen National Opera's Summer Academy in 2024. In the same year, Bjørsvik also performed the role of The Prince in DKDM’s production of Massenet’s Cendrillon.
 
Bjørsvik is also a sought-after concert soloist, having performed with renowned orchestras such as the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK), Concerto Copenhagen, Copenhagen Phil, and the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, he has sung in numerous oratorios, including Handel’s Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, as well as the Evangelist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St. Matthew Passion.
 
In addition, Bjørsvik has built a versatile repertoire within lieder and romances and has a lied-duo project with the Norwegian/Japanese pianist Kei Solvang. Together, they have performed music by composers such as Grieg, Schubert, Strauss, and Poulenc. The duo received 2nd prize at the Rued Langgaard competition in Copenhagen in 2023, where they also won as the best lied duo.
 
Bjørsvik has also received numerous other awards and scholarships in both Denmark and Norway, including Musician of the Year at the Youth Music Competition at the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2021, and the GC Rieber Foundations’ Talent Scholarship, awarded in collaboration with Bergen National Opera in 2022.
