Biography

Soprano Aylin Sezer sang roles such as Violetta, Nedda, Pamina, Micaëla, Tatyana and Nele (in Jan van Gilses Thijl, which was nominated for The Best Rediscovered Work in 2019 by International Opera Awards) with various Dutch Opera companies, such as the Dutch Touring Opera, Opera Zuid and Opera Spanga. Aylin also had a pleasure of singing Pamina in Peter Brook’s production of The Magic Flute during its world tour with Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord.
 
She had the pleasure to perform Elisabeth and Venus in a chamber orchestra arrangement of Tannhäuser, together with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. Aylin sang the Dutch premiere of Elizbar Lomdaridzes Vocalise, during a Gala of the Dutch National Opera. In the 2014-2015 season she was a member of the Young Ensemble of the Flemish Opera, where she sang roles, such as Emma (Khovanshchina), Fünfte Magd, Despina and Zerlina.
 
In the summer of 2021 Aylin sang at the prestigious Prinsengrachtconcert in Amsterdam with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. Recently she performed Ravel's Shéhérazade with Phion. Aylin multiple times performed in NTR ZaterdagMatinée in productions, such as Verdi's I due Foscari, Delius’ A village Romeo and Juliet, and Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen and will be returning coming season to sing Adele in Bellini’s Il Pirata.
 
Aylin has had the opportunity to work with conductors, such as Sir Mark Elder, Paul McCreesh, Alexander Joel, Karina Cenellakis and Dmitri Jurowski, as well as stage directors, such as Peter Brook, David Alden, David Bösch, nd Floris Visser.
 
In addition to her  performances as a soprano, Aylin enjoys crossing artistic boundaries. Some examples of such performances include World Opera Labs Arïanna, where music from different cultures around South East Europe and the Middle East were woven around Monteverdis Ariannas lament. She has also participated in World Opera Labs’ Passie van nu, which combines musical traditions from around the world with Bachs St. Matthew Passion, and the themes of love and compassion. Aylin is a part of Ramon Valles Boundless Forces, a project that brings together all genres of music and embraces differences. Additionally, her voice can be heard in the soundtrack of the Dutch movie De Belofte van Pisa directed by Norbert ter Hall.

Aylin received the Schaunard Award for Most Impressive Dutch Opera Singer of 2017” and The HOTIAD Award for Turkish Artist of the Year 2017”, and was a finalist in the Leyla Gencer Voice Competition in 2010.
 
Aylin has a Turkish father and a Dutch mother. She was born and raised in Istanbul. She moved to the Netherlands for her conservatoire. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Dutch National Opera Academy with a distinction for exceptional artistic quality”.
